When you collapsed in Maine, there
in my arms, eyes locked
just as you were leaving
I was leaving too in some strange shock

traveling great distances without a map
one moment my arm around you in the kitchen
another pacing the shoreline of the Penobscot
my boot-prints taken by the tidal water
